Tragic End: Catholic Priest Dies After Crucifix and Statue Fall On Him During Live-Streamed Mass

A Catholic priest, Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari, has tragically died after a heavy wooden crucifix and statue fell on him during a live-streamed Mass in Ecuador.

The heartbreaking incident happened at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Guayaquil, Ecuador, right at the altar while the holy Mass was ongoing.

According to reports, Father Patricio was celebrating Mass when the heavy wooden crucifix and a statue that were mounted near the altar suddenly detached and fell directly on him. The incident was captured on the church’s live-stream, leaving both the congregation in the church and online viewers in total shock.

Church members rushed to the altar to try and lift the heavy objects off him and rushed him to the hospital, but sadly, he was pronounced dead due to the serious injuries he sustained.

The video of the tragic incident has since gone viral on social media, with many Catholics around the world mourning the priest and sending condolence messages.

Many have described his death as painful and shocking, noting that he died while serving God at the altar, a place he loved so much.

Police and church officials in Guayaquil have launched investigations to establish what caused the crucifix and statue to fall. Initial reports suggest the mounting may have weakened over time.

The Catholic Diocese of Guayaquil has mourned Father Patricio as a dedicated, humble and faithful servant of God who served the church with love and commitment.

The incident serves as a sombre reminder of the unexpected dangers that can occur even during routine religious services, and the need for churches to regularly check the safety of structures inside places of worship.
