DCP Leaders Accuse Ruto’s Government of Fueling Political Insults Ahead of 2027 Elections

Leaders allied to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) have accused President William Ruto’s administration of encouraging divisive political rhetoric, warning that personal attacks are overshadowing meaningful debate as Kenya approaches the 2027 General Election.

Led by party Secretary-General John Methu during a tour of Kajiado County on Wednesday, October 14, the opposition leaders argued that the government was responding to growing criticism by attacking its opponents rather than addressing issues affecting ordinary Kenyans.

Methu questioned the government’s claim that it represents ordinary citizens, including small-scale traders and motorcycle taxi operators. He challenged the administration to demonstrate how these groups are represented in government.

The leaders also criticised what they described as unfulfilled development promises in Kajiado County. Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo questioned whether residents had received the promised roads and reliable water supplies.

“Alisema ataleta maendeleo hapa Kajiado. Kuna barabara imeletwa hapa? Kuna maji yameletwa hapa?” Ngogoyo asked, challenging the government to account for its development record.

Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thangwa also criticised the government’s suggestion that communities could explore buffalo milk production amid concerns over livestock deaths in Samburu County. He argued that the proposal failed to address the concerns of communities that depend heavily on cattle for their livelihoods.

Beyond the economic concerns, the DCP leaders called for political leaders to exercise restraint and focus on policies rather than personal insults. They maintained that public debate should centre on development, service delivery and the challenges facing citizens.

The leaders further urged Kajiado residents to elect representatives who prioritise public interests while calling for greater unity among opposition parties ahead of the next election.

The accusations reflect the intensifying political exchanges between the opposition and the Kenya Kwanza administration as parties prepare for the 2027 polls. However, the claims made by the DCP leaders represent their assessment of the government’s performance and political conduct.
