Updated Prices for Petrol, Diesel and Kerosine for the Next 30 Days

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a sharp increase in fuel prices for the October-November period, with kerosene recording the biggest hike of KSh 28.49 per litre.

In a notice issued on Wednesday, October 14, EPRA said the new prices would take effect from midnight and remain in force until November 14, 2026.

Under the revised rates, motorists in Nairobi will pay KSh 226.96 per litre of super petrol, KSh 227.76 for diesel and KSh 219.87 for kerosene.

The authority increased the price of super petrol by KSh 12.93 per litre, while diesel rose by KSh 9.90. Kerosene recorded the largest adjustment, increasing by KSh 28.49 per litre.

EPRA attributed the increases to rising international petroleum prices, which have been affected by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Director General Edward Mwirigi Kinyua said the cost of imported petroleum products had risen sharply during the period under review, putting pressure on local pump prices.

“September has been the worst month ever since this war broke out. Super petrol has reached USD $1,300 per metric tonne from the initial USD $600 per metric tonne,” Kinyua said.

He also explained that the government would not introduce fuel price stabilisation measures during the current pricing cycle, opting to preserve funds for possible future increases in international oil prices.

To cushion consumers against the rising costs, the government has reduced Value Added Tax (VAT) on petroleum products from 16% to 8%. The tax relief is expected to remain in place until January 14, 2027.

The government will also continue supporting the Petroleum Development Levy Fund as part of its efforts to manage the impact of rising global oil prices on local consumers.

EPRA further warned fuel stations against adulterating petroleum products, noting that the reduced price difference between kerosene and other fuels was intended to discourage the practice.

The latest increase is expected to put additional pressure on households and businesses, as higher fuel costs can translate into increased transport fares, distribution expenses and prices of essential goods.
