Longtrack tornado produces heavy damage in Screven County, injuries reported

SCREVEN COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — A long-track tornado that tore through parts of Screven County Saturday afternoon left heavy damage and multiple residents with injuries.

According to reports from the National Weather Service, damage was reported specifically near Old Savannah Highway and Highway 21, where numerous trees and power poles were down.

The damage near Old Savannah Highway and Highway 21 was reported to be around 200 yards wide, according to the fire department and rescue report on the NWS website.

Three people in Newington were taken to the hospital by personal vehicle.

Additionally, the Newington fire chief said treetops were shredded and debris had been lofted into the air. A mobile home also received damage from downed trees, but no injuries were reported in the mobile home.

Another mobile home near Hilltop Lane was crushed.

County officials are asking residents to stay home, off the roads and away from impacted areas so first responders can help.
