Meet The Nairobi Man Who Threatened A Prominent Magistrate From Milimani Law Courts
Details have emerged about Francis Kamau Karanja, the man who threatened a prominent magistrate at Milimani Law Courts.
A Nairobi court has denied him bail over fears that he could interfere with witnesses.Karanja appeared before the court on Friday, October 9, 2026, to answer a cyber harassment charge linked to a message he allegedly sent to the magistrate. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Court documents indicate that the alleged incident took place on September 28, 2026, when Karanja reportedly sent the judicial officer a message warning her about a case she was handling.
The message allegedly stated that he would go to any length to ensure justice was served before warning the magistrate to be careful.
The prosecution argued that the message contained threatening language that could cause the magistrate to fear for her safety.
Karanja was charged under Section 27(1)(a), read together with Section 27(2), of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, which covers cyber harassment.During the court proceedings, the prosecution opposed his release on bond, arguing that the case was particularly sensitive because the alleged victim was a judicial officer.
The prosecutor told the court that the magistrate had reportedly been living in fear since receiving the message. She was also said to have been avoiding her home because the communication allegedly referred to her residence.
The prosecution urged the court to consider the Judiciary Bail and Bond Policy Guidelines, which require courts to assess the safety of victims and the risk of witnesses being threatened or influenced when deciding whether to release an accused person.
Meanwhile, Karanja claimed that police officers arrested him without explaining the reasons for his detention.
He was initially taken to Kilimani Police Station on Tuesday before appearing at Kibera Law Courts the following day.
However, he did not enter a plea there because the case was transferred to Milimani Law Courts.
He was eventually charged on Thursday and remained in custody as the court considered his bail application.
The court ultimately refused to release him, citing concerns that he could interfere with witnesses if granted bail.
Karanja has denied the charge, and the allegations against him remain unproven as the case proceeds through the courts.
