President John Mahama has warned that State-Owned Enterprises, SOEs, that consistently fail to deliver results will face consequences, including changes in leadership.

The warning comes against a background of years of persistent losses, mounting liabilities, weak financial returns, governance challenges and dependence on government support among some state enterprises.

Addressing the SIGA Governing Boards and CEOs Conference in Accra, President Mahama stressed that public enterprises must demonstrate measurable value to Ghanaians and should no longer treat the national budget as a permanent cushion.

He acknowledged the significant financial turnaround recorded by SOEs in 2025 but cautioned that improved performance must be sustained.

“Persistent underperformance will trigger corrective action, including leadership changes where necessary,” the President warned.
