Former Asante Kotoko board member Alhaji Abu Lamini has called on the club’s supporters to restore the match-going culture that once made the Porcupine Warriors one of Ghana’s most intimidating teams, insisting their backing could be crucial to the club’s revival.
As Kotoko begin a new chapter under their current leadership, Lamini believes reconnecting with supporters will be just as important as the changes being made behind the scenes.
“For a club built as much on the passion and numerical strength of the Kotoko faithful as on its record of success, restoring that connection can make a real difference,” he told Graphic Sports.
The former board member said the club could turn its fortunes around this season if fans returned to fill the stands and embraced the initiatives being introduced by the board.
Lamini believes Kotoko’s priority for the 2026-27 campaign should be to reclaim the Ghana Premier League title, arguing that domestic success would provide the platform for the club to re-establish itself in African football.
Marking the club’s 91st anniversary, he expressed hope that the milestone would represent the beginning of a fresh era rather than simply a celebration of past achievements.
Kotoko opened their 2026-27 Ghana Premier League season with a 2-2 draw against newly promoted Debibi United at Golden City Park in Berekum on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors will host Heart of Lions in their first home league match of the campaign on Sunday.
