Ho, Sept. 8, GNA – Mr Thomas Sumaila has declared his intention to contest the Youth Organizer position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ho Central Constituency’s 2026 reorganisation exercise.
Mr Sumaila, who described his candidature as a commitment to improving opportunities for young people, said he was seeking the mandate to unite the constituency’s youth and promote their participation in development.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on September 7, he said his decision was informed by years of involvement in the constituency, including his service as Chairman of the Ho Central Serial Callers and as a Branch Youth Organizer.
He said his experience working with young people had exposed him to the challenges confronting them, particularly limited opportunities and difficulties in accessing resources to improve their livelihoods.
Mr Sumaila said, if elected, he would work to create a level playing field for young people and ensure that their concerns received greater attention within the party and constituency.
He pledged to lobby for two buses for the youth department, with a commitment to secure one within his first year in office.
He also promised to organise meetings every three months to account to the youth on his stewardship and provide updates on programmes and initiatives undertaken on their behalf.
Mr Sumaila said he would further lobby for farmland for the youth and establish a dedicated bank account for the youth executives to manage profits generated from their activities.
He pledged to remain transparent, accessible and accountable to the youth, saying he would maintain an open-door policy and regularly engage them on issues affecting their welfare and development.
“Whether rain or shine, through blood or sweat, I shall lobby fiercely with the power you invest in me and when I deliver, you will be the witnesses, the ones to stand and testify that I kept every promise,” he said.
Mr Sumaila appealed to delegates to support his candidature and give him the opportunity to serve as Youth Organizer, promising to use the mandate to advocate strongly for the interests and aspirations of young people in the constituency.
“Give me that mandate, and I will roar for you like never before,” he said.
