Indigenous energy firm Energia has kicked off celebrations marking 25 years of operations in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, highlighting a journey from a small exploration outfit to a diversified energy company with interests spanning production, gas processing and export infrastructure.
Founded in 2001 by a group of Nigerian oil and gas professionals, many of them former members of the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), Energia set out to prove that indigenous companies could match international players on technical and operational competence.
The company’s Chairman, George Osahon, described the anniversary as a tribute to the people who shaped the company’s growth. “Reaching 25 years is an important moment for Energia and a tribute to the vision, resilience and collective commitment of everyone who has contributed to the company’s journey,” he said.
Osahon traced key milestones in the company’s history, including First Oil from the Ebendo/Obodeti field in 2009, a 25 MMSCFD gas processing plant developed with Xenergi between 2010 and 2013, and the completion of its first development well in 2012. Cumulative crude production hit five million barrels by March 2016 and 10 million barrels by 2020.
He added that since 2021, Energia has expanded its technical capacity through a produced-water treatment plant, fresh 3D seismic acquisition, and new wells in the northern part of its field, with plans to raise output capacity to 20,000 barrels per day.
The company has also moved to widen its footprint, securing interests in the Ugbo and Irigbo marginal fields and developing a 5,000-barrel-per-day crude distillation unit at Kwale, Delta State.
Energia’s Managing Director/CEO, Oladimeji Bashorun, said the company’s next phase would be anchored on discipline and responsible growth. “Twenty-five years is a significant milestone in Energia’s journey, and it is an opportunity to reflect on the vision, determination, technical capability and partnerships that have shaped our growth,” he said, adding that the company remains “committed to building on the foundation we have established and contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s long-term energy future.”
Themed “Honouring Energia’s Legacy. Shaping Tomorrow’s Energy,” the five-month anniversary programme will showcase the company’s milestones, partnerships and community investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure and agriculture across its host communities.
