Medeama have been crowned Champions of Champions after defeating Nations FC 2-0 at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa on Sunday.
The Ghana Premier League champions produced a composed performance against FA Cup holders Nations FC to lift the trophy and head into the new season with confidence.
Medeama took the lead in the 28th minute after Nations FC were penalised for a handball inside the box. Fatawu Sulemana stepped up and confidently converted the resulting penalty to put the home side ahead.
Nations FC struggled to find a response as Medeama controlled much of the contest and limited their opponents’ attacking threat.
Emmanuel Annor doubled Medeama’s advantage in the second half with a well-taken goal to put the result beyond doubt.
The victory gives Medeama an early boost ahead of a demanding campaign, with the Tarkwa-based club now turning their attention to the CAF Champions League.
Medeama will host Congolese giants TP Mazembe on September 6 in the first leg of their preliminary-round tie, with the Ghanaian champions looking to carry their Champions of Champions success into continental competition.
Nations FC will also begin their continental campaign, travelling to Mali to face Diarra FC in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round on Saturday, September 5.
The Champions of Champions Cup victory provides both Ghanaian clubs with valuable preparation ahead of their respective CAF assignments.
