Kenya’s Malkia Strikers booked their place in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Women’s African Volleyball Championship in Nairobi after a commanding 3-0 victory over Nigeria on Saturday evening.
Kenya overcame a spirited challenge from Nigeria in the opening set, winning 25-21, before stepping up their performance to take control of the match. The hosts won the second set 25-17 and completed the sweep with a convincing 25-15 victory in the third.
The result maintains Kenya’s impressive run in the competition and strengthens their status among the leading contenders for the continental title.
Uganda also secured their place in the quarterfinals after defeating DR Congo in straight sets. The Ugandans were pushed hard in the second set, eventually edging the Congolese side 27-25 before closing out the match 25-18.
Kenya, Uganda and Algeria have now secured their places in the quarterfinals, with the remaining four quarterfinalists set to be determined from Sunday’s matches.
The first round has seen Kenya, Egypt, Cameroon and Rwanda emerge as group winners after impressive unbeaten campaigns.

The Egyptians finished ahead of Uganda, who claimed second place with six points. Senegal finished third with three points, while Burkina Faso ended the group stage without a point.
