Reject materialism, carnality and complacency

The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, has admonished pastors across Africa to guard against materialism, carnality and complacency, saying such attitudes devalue Christian worship and give the Christian faith a bad name.

Rev. Wengam, who is also the Vice Chairman of the Africa Assemblies of God Alliance, was the guest speaker at the National Pastors’ Conference of the Ethiopia Assemblies of God in Addis Ababa.

He shared the platform with the Global Chairman of the World Assemblies of God Fellowship, Rev. Dominic Yeo.

The conference was held under the theme: “Fresh Revival to Pursue the Great Commission.”

Speaking specifically on : “Fresh Fire to Complete the Great Commission Assignment and Seeking the Face of God for Greater Revival in Africa,” Rev Wengam urged African Christian leaders to prioritize deep spirituality and church planting. These, he said, are effective strategies to evangelize the entire continent.

The re-elected Ghanaian General Superintendent reminded the church leaders that the Assemblies of God is a product of the Azusa Street Revival, which was characterised by prayer and a deep hunger for spirituality.

“We should, therefore, not deviate from these foundational practices, which have sustained the church and propelled its growth over the years,” Rev. Wengam added.

The General Superintendent of the Ethiopia Assemblies of God, Rev. Ayansa, who also serves as the Regional Block Chairman of the East Africa Assemblies of God Alliance, commended Rev. Wengam for his “excellent delivery.”

Rev. Wengam later presented Ghanaian souvenirs, including fugu and necklaces for the women, to members of the Executive Presbytery of the Ethiopia Assemblies of God.
