The Ghana Police Service has directed owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks to keep the vehicles off roads in Accra and Tema from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30, 2026.
The three-day restriction was announced after the Police, under the auspices of the National Security Secretariat, engaged owners and operators of transit mixer trucks, also known as concrete mixer trucks, on Thursday, August 27, on road safety and compliance with traffic regulations.
The engagement, led by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, focused on concerns arising from the operation of concrete mixer trucks and their impact on road users and road infrastructure.
Stakeholders raised concerns about the spillage of concrete and other materials onto roads by the trucks, noting that such debris obstructs traffic, creates hazards for motorists and other road users, and damages road surfaces.
Operators were therefore urged to ensure that concrete and other materials are not discharged or left on roads during transportation and operations.
Under the directive, concrete mixer trucks are not permitted to move on roads within Accra and Tema during the three-day period.
The Police warned that any vehicle found moving in breach of the directive would be subject to appropriate enforcement action in accordance with the law.
The temporary restriction is intended to facilitate the clearing and cleaning of road surfaces affected by concrete and other materials.
Representatives of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highways Authority, and owners and operators of concrete mixer trucks attended the engagement.
