More than 60 constituency chairpersons of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from various parts of the country have thrown their weight behind the national chairmanship bid of Boakye Agyarko, who picked his nomination forms yesterday ahead of the party’s upcoming national executive elections.

The chairpersons, drawn from several constituencies including Central, Ashanti, Eastern, Western and Greater Accra regions among others, joined him as he picked the forms. They said their decision was based on their conviction that Mr. Agyarko has the leadership qualities required to rebuild the party and position it for victory in the 2028 general election.

Among the chairpersons from the constituencies present were Weija-Gbawe, Krowor, Ayawaso West Wuogon, Ayawaso North, Anyaa-Sowutuom and Odododiodio.

The chairpersons pledged to support Mr. Agyarko’s vision of strengthening the party’s structures, restoring discipline and making the NPP attractive again, particularly to the grassroots and the youth.

Receiving the nomination forms at the party’s headquarters, Mr. Agyarko expressed gratitude to the constituency chairpersons for the gesture, describing it as a confirmation of the call they made for him to contest the national chairmanship position in Kumasi.

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the constituency chairmen who purchased and picked this form for me and those others who accompanied them to the party headquarters to pick the form. I am indeed humbled by this generous gesture. Today’s event makes manifest the genuineness of the call they made on me on that day and which I have faithfully accepted to prosecute. Chairmen, I am truly grateful,” Mr. Agyarko said.

He added that the support affirmed the call made by constituency chairpersons on June 22, 2025, in Kumasi, where they unanimously urged him to take up the challenge of leading the party.

The former Energy Minister said his primary objective was to rebuild and rebrand the NPP into a strong party capable of recapturing power in the 2028 elections.

“My task as chairman is going to be that I lead in the rebuilding of this party and rebranding it to a solid electoral machine upon which our presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will stand and firmly prosecute and win the elections of 2028 with ease,” he stated and added, “To the rest of the NPP fraternity, let me assure you that this party shall rise again. This party may have gone down but we are not out.”

Mr. Agyarko also expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the 2028 elections, insisting that the NPP would recover from its current position.

He declared that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia remained the party’s flagbearer and expressed optimism that he would lead the NPP to victory.

“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the flagbearer of this party. He will win the elections of 2028. I am pleased to announce that in 2028, Dr. Bawumia will be the President,” Mr. Agyarko stressed.

The Abuakwa North Constituency Chairman, Seidu Ibrahim, who led the process of picking the nomination forms, said the chairpersons had settled on Mr. Agyarko after careful consideration that he could help rescue the NPP from opposition.

He said the party required a chairman who could restore discipline and provide firm leadership to support Dr. Bawumia’s presidential bid.

“At this point in time, we need a chairman who will bring discipline into the party. When you look around, you will see the majority of constituency chairmen across the country who contributed and picked nominations forms for Boakye Agyarko,” he added.

A representative of the women constituency chairpersons also pledged their support for Mr. Agyarko, urging women in the party to unite and avoid internal disagreements as they work towards reclaiming power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Stephen Kojo Arhin, the Cape Coast North Constituency Chairman, who presented the nomination forms, said the chairpersons arrived at their decision after careful assessment of the candidate, Mr. Boakye Agyarko.

He said Mr. Agyarko possessed the vision needed to reunite the grassroots, strengthen the party and make it attractive to the youth once again, while offering prayers for Mr. Agyarko, asking for wisdom, good health, humility and compassion as he seeks to lead the party.
