The 2026 Asogli Te Za (Yam Festival) was launched in Ho last Wednesday amid pomp, cultural displays and fireworks.
This year’s celebration is on the theme: “United in purpose, investing in people and infrastructure for sustainable national development.”
The launch, which featured captivating cultural performances, was attended by a large segment of the public.
The Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Stephen Adom, who launched the celebration, commended the people of Asogli for upholding peace and unity over the decades, and urged them to transform those values into rapid development.
He urged the youth to respect the traditional authorities and maintain a firm stance to project the good image of Asogli.
The celebration will be climaxed with a grand durbar at the Jubilee Park in Ho on October 3.
Activities
The key features of the celebration include Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Day, Auto Show, Asogli Marathon, Health Walk and Screening, Anti-Corruption Forum and Choral Music Day, and Volta Economic Forum.
It also comprises the carnival Hailing of the New Yam, Borborbor Fair, Summit of Ewe Chiefs from Ghana, Togo and Benin, and a lawn tennis competition, among others.
The Agbogbomefia of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV, will sit in state on October 2 at the Asogli Palace, and later take part in a State Dinner Dance and Awards ceremony in Ho.
The grand durbar is expected to attract a large number of people from various parts of the country and the international community.
The Asogli Te Za is celebrated to give thanks to God, the gods, and ancestors for a bumper harvest and offer prayers for good health and prosperity, and foster unity through forgiveness and reconciliation.
Te Za also serves as a time for stocktaking for all occupational endeavours, especially farming, as well as mobilising human and material resources for job and wealth creation.
The festival also serves as an annual re-affirmation of allegiance by all chiefs and their subjects in Asogli State to the Agbogbomefia.
