Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Kojo Asemanyi, has announced his intention to contest the parliamentary seat again in the 2028 general elections.
Asemanyi lost the constituency to National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Desmond Degraft Paitoo in both the 2020 and 2024 elections. In the 2024 election, Paitoo polled 33,806 votes against Asemanyi’s 25,421 votes.
Speaking to Citi News on the sidelines of the NPP’s Central Regional executive elections, Asemanyi criticised the current MP, accusing him of failing to deliver significant development to the constituency.
He also claimed that several projects initiated during his tenure have stalled, citing the Gomoa East road project and water extension projects as examples.
“There’s absolutely nothing that this man is doing. Everything that I did, especially the Gomoa East road, we did it up to 50%, and up to now, it is where it is,” he said.
Asemanyi said he was confident that voters in Gomoa East would give him another opportunity to represent them, based on what he described as the lack of development under his successor.
“I am very confident that, come 2028, after what they have seen, they will give me the opportunity to come and continue my good work,” he added.
