The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) recently called for implementing new measures to reduce vessel delays and improve efficiency at the Tema Port.

At the second ‘Just-In-Time (JIT) Sailing and Port Call Optimisation Workshop’ held at the port, GMA deputy director general Mubarick Masawudu urged stakeholders to move from proposals to implementation, particularly measures aimed at reducing delays in vessel clearance and turnaround.

The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) recently called for implementing new measures to reduce vessel delays and improve efficiency at the Tema Port.
At a recent workshop at the port, GMA deputy director general Mubarick Masawudu stressed on the need for a maritime single window to enable stakeholders to electronically process and exchange information through a unified platform.

The workshop was part of the International Maritime Organisation’s GreenVoyage 2050 Just-In-Time Sailing Project, which seeks to reduce unnecessary vessel waiting time while promoting a more efficient, digital and environmentally sustainable maritime sector.

Masawudu also stressed on the need for a maritime single window to enable stakeholders to electronically process and exchange information through a unified platform, according to domestic media reports.

GMA would pursue necessary legislative measures to support the implementation of the system, he said.

Tema Port director Tebon Zumah called for a wider adoption of Just-In-Time sailing practices across all terminals at Tema Port and at the Takoradi Port.

He also stressed the need for the maritime industry to accelerate its transition towards green energy, saying improved efficiency would be essential for businesses to remain competitive and sustainable.

The workshop brought together key players like the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, the customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Port Health, the Ghana Immigration Service, shipping lines and shipping agents.
