Mudavadi Reveals Western Kenya’s Political Plan Beyond Ruto’s 2027 Re-election

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has launched the Magharibi Movement, a new movement to mobilise Western Kenya voters to support President William Ruto’s reelection in 2027.

In a statement on Saturday, August 15, Mudavadi said the movement would bring together political and community leaders from Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga, and Trans Nzoia counties as part of efforts to strengthen the region’s political voice.

According to the PCS, the movement will conduct grassroots mobilisation to drum up support for Ruto’s reelection and ensure the region is not left out of government in 2027.

“Western Kenya’s future cannot be defined by elections every five years. It must be built every day through stronger representation, development, and opportunities that improve people’s lives,” Mudavai stated.

“With that bigger picture in mind, I launched the Magharibi Movement, bringing together political and community leaders from Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga and Trans Nzoia to give our people a stronger platform to shape the region’s future,” he added.

The movement began its grassroots mobilisation on Saturday in Kakamega County, with representatives drawn from 12 sub-counties.

According to Mudavadi, the initiative will build a wider grassroots network to support Ruto’s reelection while also pursuing broader development and political interests for Western Kenya.

The movement is expected to expand beyond Kakamega to other counties in Western Kenya as it builds its grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to the Cabinet Secretary for the Diaspora and Foreign Affairs, political influence begins with participation, urging residents to register, participate in elections, and ensure they are counted.

The initiative comes as political leaders intensify efforts to build alliances and consolidate support ahead of the 2027 elections.

Western Kenya is proving to be a contested area between Ruto and the opposition as every faction is pulling massive crowds during campaigns.

The opposition, led by the Linda Mwananchi movement, has in recent weeks held massive rallies in the region, while the government is also drawing thousands to its rallies.

The Sifuna-led movement wants the region to produce a presidential candidate in 2027, while the Mudavadi group says the region’s best chance to lead the country is in 2032.

As political realignments take shape, the Magaharibi Movement’s immediate focus is on increasing voter registration, strengthening grassroots mobilisation, and rallying Western Kenya behind Ruto’s bid for a second term.
