The Motorcycle Sports Federation of Kenya (MSFK) on Saturday officially flagged off Team Kenya ahead of the FIM Africa Motocross of African Nations (MXoAN) 2026, with 24 riders and seven officials set to represent the country in Windhoek, Namibia, later this month.
The championship, held annually across FIM Africa member nations, will run from August 28 to 30 at Gallina Motocross Park in Windhoek.
The send-off ceremony at Jamhuri Motocross Track in Nairobi marked Kenya’s official entry into Africa’s premier national team motocross championship. The FIM Africa-sanctioned event brings together national teams from across the continent to compete in several age and engine classes.
Team Kenya features 24 riders across eight classes, ranging from the youngest competitors in MX 50 to senior riders in MX 1 and the Veterans category. They will be accompanied by a seven-member technical delegation led by Team Manager Eric Ngure.
Other officials are Deputy Team Manager Shanna Kandie, coach Walter Kuria, team doctor Dr Njooro Karanja, head team mechanic Joseph Kamau, team mechanic David Mukundi and delegation manager Judy Luyo.
Speaking during the send-off, MSFK president Renzo Bernardi said: “This team represents the best of Kenyan motocross. These riders have earned their place through competition, and they travel to Namibia with the full support of MSFK and the Government of Kenya. We are proud of every one of them.”
The 2026 MXoAN carries added significance for Kenyan motocross, with FIM Africa confirming that performances at the championship will influence the selection of riders to represent Africa at the Motocross of Nations in France and the WMX Cup in Australia.
Kenya’s performance in Namibia could therefore have a direct bearing on the country’s international representation and standing in the sport.
The team’s campaign has been supported by the Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports and the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund (SASDF), alongside contributions from the riders and their families.
Kenya’s motorcycles will leave Nairobi by road on August 15, covering approximately 5,500 kilometres through Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia. The team will fly out on August 26 ahead of the championship.
