Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations Minister Samuel Nartey George has urged Ghana’s technology sector to develop locally designed financial technology solutions instead of relying on imported platforms.

Speaking at the launch of a fintech initiative, the minister said Ghana must demonstrate its ability to build the future of digital finance through local innovation.

He said government wants to create an environment where young Ghanaians are encouraged to solve problems through technology.

“We want every young Ghanaian who looks at a problem to say, ‘I can build a solution,’ instead of waiting for someone else to solve it,” he said.

According to Sam George, Ghana has the talent to produce globally competitive fintech companies through universities, innovation hubs and independent software developers.

He, however, emphasised that innovation must be supported by regulations that protect consumers and preserve trust in digital financial services.

“Where money is involved, trust is not optional; it is the product,” he said.

The minister called for regulations that encourage innovation while ensuring users remain protected, adding that technology should improve lives, create jobs and expand economic opportunities.
