The Chief Director of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Madam Fati Lily Soale, has assured the Ghana Baseball and Softball Federation of the government’s support for efforts to integrate baseball and softball into Ghana’s broader sports development framework.

She gave the assurance when the Ghana Baseball and Softball Federation, accompanied by a delegation from the Japan Africa Baseball & Softball Foundation, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry on Monday in Accra.

Madam Soale, who received the delegation on behalf of the Minister, said baseball and softball could provide young people with opportunities to develop teamwork, discipline and other skills that could support their personal development.

She said the two sports could also help engage young people and promote discipline and teamwork.

She stated that the Ministry was ready to work with the Ghana Baseball and Softball Federation and its Japanese partners to create opportunities for the development of the two sports in Ghana.

On his part, the President of the Japan Africa Baseball & Softball Foundation, Mr Shinya Tomonari, said the visit was to introduce the Federation to the Ministry and discuss programmes to support the development of baseball and softball in Ghana.

He said the planned initiatives include coaching workshops, youth tournaments and exchange programmes that would provide Ghanaian players and coaches with opportunities to learn from their Japanese counterparts.

Mr Tomonari noted that baseball is a major sport in Japan and enjoys strong popularity in the country. He said baseball goes beyond competition as it promotes teamwork, discipline and essential life skills among young people.

He expressed the Foundation’s interest in working with Ghanaian stakeholders to create more opportunities for players and coaches while supporting the growth of baseball and softball in the country.
