However, while speaking in South Africa, he suggested a sabbatical to the country might be possible eventually.
“I’d like to just be able to be a one-club man and maybe do a sabbatical if I looked to do another World Cup, maybe.
“I could probably see myself doing a sabbatical over here potentially – do a full year of scrumming over here, learn a few things into the next World Cup. But to be honest, I got no interest going overseas and I’m really enjoying myself in the All Blacks environment at the moment.”
The front-rower suggested France could also be an option as both countries suit his style of play.
“South Africa, France, either one of those sort of countries, I probably wouldn’t get a lot going out of Japan.
“I don’t think Japan want any front-rowers over there as international players, so those are probably my only options as a front-rower.
“But I think just the sheer size of some of these blokes getting around and they’re a scrumming nation, they hang their head on that and it’d just be cool to see how they operate.
“I’ve heard how they do their weeks, how many scrums they do in a week, they love scrumming, so do I, and it would just be cool to see how they operate and their mindset around a few things would be cool to as a learning side of things.”
During the All Blacks’ tour of South Africa, de Groot said he’s been taking in plenty of the culture and enjoying the meat.
“It’s on hand, you got biltong and they got these dried sausages things over here, they’re bloody good.
“And they obviously do a good cut, few T-bones and ribeyes getting around, so they know how to cook their meat over here, I’m enjoying it.”
He’s also been enjoying some activities he does back in New Zealand, heading to the shooting range with a few teammates.
“Off field, we got to go shoot some gun, that was pretty cool, got to shoot some AKs and some M16s and if you want to go watch that, it’s on my Instagram,” he said.
“No moving things – that might be for me in a couple weeks, we’ll see if I can get out for a hunt.”
