On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted a violent bandit attack in Sabon Gulbi Village, located within the Musawa Local Government Area. In a high-stakes operation, law enforcement officers, alongside local security personnel, engaged the armed assailants, resulting in the neutralization of one suspect and the recovery of critical weapons and equipment.

Detailed Account of the Incident

The operation commenced following a distress call received at approximately 5:00 PM at the Musawa Division. The alert indicated that a gang of armed bandits, armed with lethal weapons, had launched an assault on the village. Acting swiftly, the Deputy Police Officer (DPO) of Musawa, in coordination with the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC), deployed a joint tactical team to the scene.

Upon arrival, the security forces encountered the bandits in a prolonged gunfight, during which they repelled the attack with precision and tactical expertise. The confrontation resulted in the neutralization of one bandit, while several others escaped, some reportedly suffering gunshot injuries.

Evidence and Assets Recovered

As part of the post-encounter sweep, police officers recovered:
– One AK-47 rifle—a standard firearm frequently used by armed groups in the region.
– One ammunition magazine containing five live rounds—indicating the bandits were prepared for prolonged resistance.
– One operational motorcycle—likely used for rapid movement and escape.

The recovered items provide crucial evidence for ongoing investigations and underscore the preparedness and coordination of the bandit group.

Commander’s Commendation and Public Appeal

In a press statement, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, highlighted the bravery and professionalism of the responding officers. The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, also expressed gratitude for the timely intelligence that enabled a swift and decisive response.

CP Fage reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents, emphasizing that:

“The Katsina State Police Command remains fully engaged in safeguarding lives and property. We urge the public to maintain vigilance and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police division.”

Ongoing Investigations and Security Measures

Authorities have intensified efforts to track down the fugitive bandits involved in the attack. The recovery of weapons and the neutralization of one suspect signal a strategic victory in the broader fight against armed banditry in the region.

Residents of Musawa LGA and neighboring areas are advised to stay alert, report unusual movements to security personnel, and cooperate fully with law enforcement to prevent future incidents.

This incident underscores the collaborative efforts between the police and local security forces in countering armed violence, reinforcing the determination of the Katsina State Police Command to maintain law and order.
