MTN Ghana has urged households to adopt fibre broadband as the demand for reliable home internet continues to increase, driven by the growing use of digital services for work, education, business and entertainment.
The telecommunications company says stable internet connectivity has moved beyond being a convenience to becoming an essential requirement for modern households, particularly as more people work remotely and rely on online platforms for daily activities.
Speaking at the MTN Home edition of Bright Conversations, Chief Home Officer of MTN Ghana, Richard Acheampong, said many households still depend mainly on mobile data despite the increasing need for stronger and more consistent internet connections.
He explained that fibre broadband offers dedicated connectivity capable of supporting multiple users and devices at the same time without significant drops in performance.
“The value for fibre is that when you get home, you have multiple users and multiple devices at the same time. You could have up to 50 people connected to your fibre internet in the home. You cannot get that on mobile,” he said.
Mr Acheampong noted that while mobile internet is largely designed for individual users on the move, fibre broadband is better suited for activities such as remote work, online learning, video conferencing, streaming, smart home applications and online gaming.
He said MTN Fibre Broadband can deliver speeds of up to 500 megabits per second, compared to average 4G mobile connections that typically provide lower speeds and are subject to network conditions.
According to him, the key advantage of fibre is not only speed but also reliability and stability, especially for activities where interruptions can have serious consequences.
“Fibre is about reliability, and it’s about stability. It’s not even a function of how much you’re paying. It’s about the medium to long-term value. It’s about what you get and the changes that happen in your home,” Mr Acheampong stated.
He said dependable home internet is increasingly important for virtual job interviews, online examinations, business meetings, digital transactions and other activities that require uninterrupted connectivity.
Mr Acheampong added that a single fibre connection can support several users and internet-enabled devices simultaneously, making it suitable for households where different members may be working, studying or accessing entertainment platforms at the same time.
He said MTN Ghana will continue investing in fibre broadband infrastructure while increasing public education on the benefits of reliable home connectivity.
The company believes expanding access to stable broadband will support Ghana’s digital transformation agenda by improving productivity, strengthening online education and enabling more people to participate in the digital economy.
