Solar module manufacturer Solex Energy Ltd has proposed setting up an end-to-end solar manufacturing ecosystem in Ghana, including local production of renewable energy components, technology transfer and workforce training, following discussions with a delegation led by Ghana’s High Commissioner to India Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso.
The proposal was discussed during the Ghanaian delegation’s visit to Solex’s headquarters in Surat. The two sides explored opportunities for cooperation in solar manufacturing, technology and renewable energy infrastructure as Ghana seeks to diversify its energy mix and expand clean energy generation.
Solex said the proposed partnership would be implemented in phases and would include skill development and technical training programmes to build a local renewable energy workforce. The company also expressed interest in collaborating with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) to support Ghana’s clean energy transition.
The discussions come as several African countries are stepping up investments in renewable energy to improve energy security and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, creating opportunities for Indian solar manufacturers to expand overseas.
Solex currently has a photovoltaic module manufacturing capacity of 4 GW and plans to expand this to 10 GW by 2030. It also aims to establish 10 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity under its Vision 2030 expansion plan.
Microalgae-based carbon capture system at oil refinery
Bhopal-based Mushroom World has deployed its microalgae-based carbon capture system at Indian Oil Corporation’s refinery in Vadodara, Gujarat, and Amanora Park Town, a residential township in Maharashtra, marking the expansion of the technology to industrial and real estate applications.
The company said the deployments represent a step towards a wider commercial adoption of its AlgaeTree system, which uses microalgae housed in photobioreactors to capture carbon dioxide from ambient air or industrial flue gas. Through photosynthesis, the microalgae convert the captured carbon dioxide into oxygen and biomass, which can be processed into products such as biopellets and fertilisers.
Mushroom World described AlgaeTree as India’s first commercialised carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) solution. It said each photobioreactor is capable of capturing up to 1.5 tonnes of carbon annually, although the company did not provide independent validation of the claim.
The company said it has received inquiries from industrial units, real estate developers, educational institutions and public infrastructure projects in India, besides early commercial interest from overseas markets, including the UAE and Malaysia.
Mushroom World plans to expand AlgaeTree installations to more Indian cities and develop compact versions for offices, hospitals, hotels, educational institutions and airports.
It is also working on export-ready systems, renewable energy-powered variants and advanced monitoring technologies, as it seeks to scale up the deployment of the carbon capture solution.
