Ghana’s factory-gate inflation slowed down sharply, with the Producer Price Inflation (PPI) rate declining to 3.5% in June.
This drop offers critical breathing room for the domestic industrial sector following a turbulent period of fluctuating operational costs.
Figures released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) confirm that the year-on-year producer inflation dropped from the 5.8% recorded in May, indicating an overall easing of wholesale price pressures on domestic factory goods and services.
According to the Ghana Statistical Service, the decline was driven mainly by.a major cool-off in resource extraction sectors.
In previous months, volatile global commodity markets and fluctuating extraction operational costs kept mining index figures elevated.
However, the sharp stabilization in this specific sector during June acted as the main catalyst pulling down the national aggregate baseline.
The decline in producer inflation comes at an interesting economic juncture. While factory-level pricing structures cooled down to 3.5%, consumer-level index metrics followed a different path, with headline consumer inflation climbing to 5.3% in June due to rising domestic fuel, transport, and service costs.
The month-on-month deceleration suggests that industrial manufacturers, utility providers, and bulk transport operators are seeing a more stable environment for raw resource procurement.
Lower input costs at the factory gate typically mean businesses do not have to aggressively pass down massive overhead price hikes to secondary distributors or final consumer channels down the supply chain.
Financial analysts point out that a lower PPI rate provides supportive buffers for local manufacturing businesses navigating broader macroeconomic recovery efforts.
The continued decline indicates that production-level cost pressures are softening, creating a platform for more predictable commercial planning for the second half of the fiscal year.
