Nonhle Thema has once again set social media abuzz following a candid interview with Thando Thabethe on 947’s Your Story, where she reflected on her legacy, influence and the impact she believes she has had on South African pop culture.

During the wide-ranging conversation, the former Channel O presenter made several bold claims about her place in South African entertainment. Thema said she believes she introduced Twitter to South Africa, explaining that she was one of the country’s earliest celebrities to embrace the platform and help make it mainstream. She also claimed that she was among the first Black people to live in the affluent Johannesburg suburb of Bryanston, describing herself as someone who consistently broke barriers long before it became common.

The interview has since gone viral after clips were shared across social media, with many South Africans weighing in on her comments. While some agreed that Thema was one of the country’s first celebrities to truly understand the power of Twitter and social media branding, others questioned whether she could take credit for introducing the platform to South Africa.

A Review into Nonhle Thema’s interview with Thando Thabethe on 947.

From a PR Perspective. Nonhle Thema remains a case study to be studied deeply.#NonhleThema #NonhleThemagoestohollywood #YourStory #947DriveWithThando #Review https://t.co/BKGRkCAZj9

The comments also reignited conversations about Thema’s influence during the late 2000s and early 2010s. At the height of her career, she was one of South Africa’s biggest media personalities, interviewing international stars, dominating entertainment headlines and becoming one of the country’s most talked-about celebrities on Twitter.

Her online presence often shaped entertainment conversations and celebrity news cycles, making her one of the defining celebrity figures of the era.Whether people agree with her claims or not, the interview has reminded many of the role Nonhle Thema played in shaping an era of South African entertainment that was defined by celebrity culture, social media and unapologetic confidence.

Here are some of the reactions from X…

Guys, Nonhle Thema says she introduced South Africa to Twitter 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Also, Thando Thabethe’s professionalism throughout that whole interview? 10/10😭🤌🏾. I can’t believe I listened to that whole thing. Thando is a better person than me. Nonhle’s tone is hella weird.

Y’all don’t know Nonhle Thema, she was a real deal that time. She might have introduced Twitter to SA only for it to destroy her career! pic.twitter.com/iiCSeMkjul

She didn’t introduce South Africans to Twitter, but she was one of the biggest reasons it became popular. At her peak, Nonhle Thema was arguably South Africa’s biggest celebrity, and her tweets were legendary. https://t.co/8Y1hsduAgm

Ama2000s think Nonhle Thema is lying when she says she used to be big and influenced a lot of Hollywood stars, including Rihanna! If only they knew how big that girl really was back in the day! pic.twitter.com/10y7GkdZLd
