Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed attempts by an unnamed leader to advise the Mt Kenya region.

Gachagua, speaking on Monday, July 20, 2026, described the leader as a Class Two dropout

He accused President William Ruto’s allies of disrespecting the community by telling residents which political leaders to follow.

He spoke during post-Ol Kalou consultations at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County on Monday, July 20, 2026.

“Na nimeona ile mtu wa Standard Two trying to guide this community,” Gachagua said.

“Unajua hii madharau watu ya Ruto iko nayo, ati mtu wa Standard Two wants to advise these people, saying, ‘Watu wa mlima msimfuate Riggy G.’”

Gachagua did not name the person he was addressing. He also did not provide information about the person’s educational background.

Gachagua announces DCP targets

The former Deputy President said the Democracy for the Citizens Party was building a strong national team ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“We DCP must get a minimum of 130 MPs, 720 MCAs, 20 governors and 20 senators. It is doable, and we will work together,” Gachagua said.

“Hii kazi tutasukuma pamoja. Nyinyi mfanye kazi kwa bidii.”

He urged party officials and aspirants to intensify grassroots mobilisation.

“Hard work has no shortcut, and effort has no replacement,” he said.

Gachagua praised Aloise Kinyanjui’s political activities in Juja Constituency.

“I like what Aloise Kinyanjui is doing in Juja,” he said.

Kinyanjui is positioning himself to contest the Juja parliamentary seat on a DCP ticket. He is expected to face competition during the party’s nomination process.

Ol Kalou victory strengthens DCP

The consultations followed DCP’s commanding victory in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

DCP candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho secured 35,440 votes. United Democratic Alliance candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah received 5,450 votes.

The 29,990-vote margin delivered DCP its first parliamentary seat. A total of 41,656 voters participated, representing a 57 per cent turnout.

The result has strengthened Gachagua’s campaign to present his party as the leading political vehicle in Mt Kenya.

He also rejected proposals to separate Mt Kenya East from Mt Kenya West.

“Hiyo mambo ya kugawa mlima ni mambo ya Ruto,” Gachagua said.

The former Deputy President has maintained that dividing the region would weaken its influence and improve Ruto’s re-election prospects.

His latest remarks signal that DCP intends to convert the Ol Kalou victory into a wider grassroots campaign across Mt Kenya and other regions before 2027.
