TOR receives one million barrels of Jubilee crude for local refining

The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has received one million barrels of Ghana’s indigenous Jubilee Medium Sweet Crude to boost its operations.

The cargo, transported aboard the vessel MT Apache, arrived on Thursday, July 16, 2026, marking a major step in the ongoing revitalisation of the nation’s only state-owned refinery.

In a statement released on July 16, 2026, the refinery management emphasised that these consistent supplies are vital to maintaining operational capacity.

“These supplies have enabled the Refinery to continue producing petroleum products for both the domestic and regional markets, advancing Ghana’s energy security while promoting industrialisation and value addition,” the statement noted.

This delivery represents the second consignment of domestic crude supplied to TOR under the current government.

The arrival of the Jubilee crude follows a string of successful supply chains initiated since May 2026. Within the last three months, TOR has secured three separate million-barrel consignments—including Bonga, Baleine, and now the Jubilee Medium Sweet Crude.

By refining indigenous crude locally, it will stabilise the local market and position Ghana as a competitive refining hub for the West African sub-region.

The refinery’s leadership expressed appreciation to President Mahama for his “steadfast commitment and visionary leadership,” as well as to the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, for his strategic oversight in restoring refining operations.

As operations ramp up, TOR reaffirmed its dedication to the national objective of strengthening the link between the upstream and downstream sectors, ensuring that Ghana captures more value from its natural resources.
