Sogakope (V/R), July 15, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama will undertake a two-day working visit to the Volta Region from July 16 to 17 as part of his nationwide Resetting Ghana Tour to assess key government programmes and engage citizens on the country’s development agenda.
The visit will see the President inspect ongoing infrastructure projects, commission completed public facilities, launch new development initiatives and interact with residents and key stakeholders on issues relating to governance and socio-economic transformation.
A statement issued by the Volta Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said the tour reflected the Government’s commitment to maintaining close engagement with citizens while monitoring the progress of projects designed to improve livelihoods, strengthen public institutions and expand access to essential services.
According to the statement, President Mahama will begin the first day of the visit with the sod-cutting ceremony for the proposed 24-Hour Economy Market at Juapong, an initiative expected to enhance commercial activities, support local enterprise development and create employment opportunities.
The President will also inspect the newly completed 1,500-seat multipurpose assembly hall at the Peki College of Education and undertake inspections of the Asikuma–Anyirawase Road and the UHAS By-pass and Anyirawase–Ho Road projects, which form part of ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure and connectivity within the region.
The itinerary also includes an inspection of the multipurpose laboratory project at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Sokode Campus, to assess progress on infrastructure intended to strengthen medical education, research and innovation.
President Mahama will later participate in a durbar on the Government’s Free Primary Health Care Programme at the Ho Municipal Hospital, where the initiative to expand access to quality healthcare services is expected to be highlighted.
On the second day of the tour, the President will inspect the Ho Sports Stadium to assess its current state as part of efforts to improve sports infrastructure and promote youth development.
He will subsequently hold a Resetting Ghana Citizens’ Engagement at the Ho Technical University, bringing together traditional authorities, students, religious leaders, civil society organisations, members of the business community, the media and the general public to discuss government policies, receive public feedback and strengthen citizen participation in national development.
President Mahama will also commission the newly completed Akatsi North District Police Headquarters at Ave-Dakpa, a facility expected to enhance policing capacity, improve security service delivery and strengthen law enforcement in the district.
The regional tour will conclude with an inspection of the Ho–Denu Road Project, a strategic road corridor expected to improve transportation, facilitate trade and enhance connectivity across the Volta Region.
The statement said the visit formed part of the Government’s broader agenda to accelerate infrastructure development, strengthen the healthcare and education sectors, improve public service delivery, promote economic growth and deepen engagement between government and citizens.
It encouraged residents of the Volta Region to participate in the scheduled activities and support the collective pursuit of national development.
