The Ghana Police Service has intensified its nationwide enforcement against the illegal use of sirens, strobe lights and unauthorised vehicle modifications, intercepting 1,054 vehicles in the Greater Accra Region alone.
The Ghana Police Service has intercepted 1,054 vehicles in the Greater Accra Region as part of an ongoing nationwide operation to remove illegal sirens, strobe lights, beacon lights and other unauthorised vehicle modifications from the country’s roads.
The exercise, which began on June 15, 2026, is aimed at improving road safety, enforcing traffic regulations and restoring discipline among motorists.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 21, the Police said the operation targets vehicles fitted with illegal sirens, strobe lights, beacon lights, unlawful horns and other unauthorised modifications that violate the Road Traffic Regulations.
Officers educated offending drivers on the relevant traffic laws before removing and confiscating the illegal devices for further action.
The Police disclosed that since the operation started, 4,627 vehicles have been intercepted across the country for various traffic violations related to the exercise.
According to the Service, the operation forms part of broader efforts to ensure motorists comply with existing traffic laws and to reduce the misuse of emergency warning devices by unauthorized persons.
The Police stressed that the nationwide exercise will continue and warned that anyone found using illegal sirens, beacon lights or other unauthorised vehicle modifications will face enforcement action.
The Service has therefore urged motorists to comply with the Road Traffic Regulations and refrain from installing or using illegal equipment on their vehicles to help promote safer and more orderly roads.
