The Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Desmond De-Graft Paitoo, has alleged that a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) influenced some constituents to heckle him over the poor state of roads in the area.

According to the MP, the incident occurred on Friday, July 10, 2026, when he visited the constituency to monitor activities during the national sanitation exercise.

He said he was met with hooting and hostility from some residents at Gomoa Nyanyano, with some individuals allegedly threatening to assault him.

The MP explained that his engagement with the residents centred on concerns about the poor condition of roads in the community.

He said he acknowledged their concerns and assured them that efforts were underway to secure government support to permanently address the situation.

“I came to monitor the sanitation exercise in my constituency. I went to Nyanyano and it was an eyesore. Some people wanted to beat me, others hooted at me. So I asked them to calm down and tell me their problems, and they complained about the roads.

“I made them aware we are working on it. It’s left with a few things to sort out, including procurement. I’ve been to the ministry and agency. Last year, flooding caused further damage to the road, so I brought an excavator to fix it,” he told the media after the exercise.

De-Graft Paitoo claimed that during the incident, he saw a man identified as Sly, the NPP constituency secretary, recording the scene and allegedly encouraging residents to continue hooting at him.

“I realised the NPP was behind it because I saw their secretary, Sly, recording the incident and urging them to keep doing it. But as a politician, I’m not afraid of heckling. I have assured them that the road will be fixed,” he added.

The MP said he remained focused on addressing the concerns of his constituents, stressing that criticism and public backlash were part of political service.
