The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has fixed Saturday, September 19, 2026, for its national delegates conference to elect national officers and consider proposed amendments to the party’s constitution.
The conference, to be held in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, would be attended by delegates from across the country, and forms a major part of the party’s preparations towards the 2028 general election.
The decision was taken by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and subsequently approved by the National Council at separate meetings held on June 25, 2026, a statement signed and issued by the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said.
Constitutional review
Ahead of the conference, the General Secretary, acting pursuant to Article 19(2) of the party’s constitution, has invited members and stakeholders to submit proposals for amendments to the constitution.
The statement said all proposed amendments should be submitted to the Office of the General Secretary at the party’s national headquarters or sent electronically through the designated email address by Friday, July 17, 2026.
It explained that the constitutional review process would enable members to contribute ideas aimed at strengthening the party’s structures, enhancing its internal democratic processes and promoting effective governance.
“As the party prepares for its National Delegates Conference, it remains committed to constitutionalism, internal democracy, and the rule of law, ensuring adherence to the Party Constitution and its democratic traditions,” the statement said.
The National Delegates Conference is expected to complete a major phase of the NPP’s internal reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general election.
The election of national officers will provide the party with a new national leadership.
The conference is also expected to consider constitutional amendments that may shape the party’s organisational and electoral processes going into the next election cycle.
Background
The NPP has been implementing a roadmap for its internal elections following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general election.
As part of the process, the party has undertaken polling station and electoral area elections with constituency polls slated for July 11, 2026 and regional elections expected to follow to renew its leadership at various levels.
After the election of national officers on September 19, attention of the party is expected to shift to an intensified nationwide mobilisation and campaign preparations.
