Disunity holding NPP back in Asawase — Constituency Secretary aspirant

An aspiring Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Asawase, Mohamed Lamin Awal Jarah, has attributed the party’s challenges in the constituency to disunity among its rank and file, pledging to rebuild cohesion if elected.

Speaking to Citi News ahead of Saturday’s constituency executive elections, Mr Jarah said he was contesting the position to unite party members and strengthen the NPP’s chances of improving its electoral fortunes in the 2028 general elections.

According to him, internal divisions have been a major setback for the party in Asawase, and resolving them will be critical to rebuilding the constituency’s political strength.

“I have a fair idea and knowledge about whatever is holding the party back. It’s unity among the rank and file. It’s a major thing that is affecting the party,” he said.

Mr. Jarah said he had worked with key stakeholders in the constituency over the years and was confident he could bring them together to pursue a common objective.

“I have worked with all the major contributors of the party in the Asawase Constituency, so it will not be difficult for me to engage all of them and ensure that we unify the rank and file to pursue one agenda and one goal, which is to ensure that we increase our vote in the Asawase Constituency and give ourselves a shot at winning the parliamentary election in 2028,” he stated.

He noted that although Asawase was once regarded as a political hotspot, the situation had improved considerably.

“Just like you said, Asawase Constituency used to be a hotspot area, but I can confidently tell you that it is something we’re not seeing,” he said.

Mr. Jarah also expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election process, describing it as peaceful and well-managed.

He said the few challenges that had emerged were promptly addressed by the election committee.

On his campaign, the secretary hopeful said he had engaged delegates across the constituency with a message centred on unity, which he believes has resonated strongly with party members.

“I’ve engaged them with my message of unity, which is very key to the success story of the NPP in the Asawase Constituency. I am a symbol of unity. I think that I’m going to unify the rank and file of the party,” he said.

He added that his youthfulness, vision and ideas had won him the support of delegates.

“My youthful nature, intellect, ideas and vision are endearing me to the delegates, and I’m optimistic that they will come out and give me a resounding victory,” he said.

Mr. Jarah said he also enjoys the backing of leading party figures, including former parliamentary aspirant for Asawase Manaf Ibrahim, former Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive Alhaji Alidu Seidu, Alhaji Ali Suraj and other senior members.

He expressed confidence that, with their support and the unity of party members, the NPP could significantly increase its votes in Asawase and mount a stronger challenge in the 2028 parliamentary elections.

“I’ve committed my energy, resources and intellect to the party over the years. This is the time for the party to rally behind a young man who is charismatic, visionary and strategic, and who can help restructure the party and unify the rank and file for the 2028 elections,” he said.
