Ghana takes on their colonial masters today, Tuesday in Group L second fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The most anticipated world Cup game is finally here and we bring to you every detail of the game, from match officials to last training sessions, game venue and kickoff.

The Black Stars will be locking horns with the European giants after 15 years when they both met in an international friendly with encounter ending in a one all draw game.

At this crucial moment with, Ghana sitting second in Group L behind England with three points and a goal is aiming to shock the Three Lions for qualification to the next phase. England on the other hand, has ambition set on maintaining his status in Group L even before taking on Panama in their last fixture.

Venue

The Black Stars will meet England in the Group L decisive encounter at the Gillette Stadium on Tuesday night in Boston, United States of America. This marks the first time Ghana is playing a game at the venue, likewise England with both not familiar with the Stadium.

Kickoff

The organisers of the tournament has scheduled kickoff for exactly 20:00 GMT and 8:00 pm Ghana time in a fixture that pits England’s early tournament momentum against a Ghana side growing in confidence after a narrow but crucial opening win over Panama.

Match officials

Saíd Martínez from Honduran is the referee for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L match between England and Ghana.

He will be supported by assistant referees Walter Lopez and Christian Ramirez, with Ning Ma serving as the fourth official.

Statistics

Thomas Tuchel side began their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a dramatic but convincing 4–2 victory over Croatia. A game which saw, Harry Kane bag brace and Marcus Ransford climbing from bench to score one. An outcome that underlined their attacking firepower while exposing defensive blenders.

The match also marked a statistical high point, with the Three Lions producing a record number of shots inside the box in a World Cup fixture as they overwhelmed the 2018 finalists in spells.

England recorded 20 shots inside the penalty area against Croatia during their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, setting a new World Cup record for the national team.

The impressive attacking performance in the Group L clash showcased their dominance. England fired 22 total shots compared to Croatia’s 11, and 11 of those attempts were on target.

A second straight win for Thomas Tuchel today would secure England qualification and extend a winning streak that has gathered momentum across all competitions.

Ghana, on the other hand secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Panama in Toronto, Canada in their first group game before arriving in Boston. Results, that has since seen the West Africa country grow in confidence.

The result ended Ghana’s seven winless run in all competitions, hence given morale to the team ahead of England test.

Carlos Queiroz side made exactly 7 attempts at goal during their 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L match against Panama, resulting in their late 1-0 victory. Of those 7 attempts, 2 were on target, 4 were off target and 1 was blocked.

With Jonas Adjetey recording 100 per cent aerial duels against Panama, Carlos have leaned on structure, patience and conservation to handle his opponents as observed in Panama game. He’s also chosen the 4-2-3-1 formation to help his outfit shine in games with Panama as an example despite not enjoying more of the ball.

The system, however prioritises balance in midfield and pace in transition.

However, the attack and structure gets questioned since it isn’t producing goals and punishing opponents.

Team Selection

Player selection definitely remains a key area for both Tuchel and Carlos.

The Three Lions are expected to give space to players who impressed from the bench against Croatia, inspiring them to the 4-2 triumph. Arsenals captain Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice after fitness concerns are expected back to the starting lineup.

Ghana in the midfield, is boost with the availability of Thomas Partey after being denied entry to Canada. With his exposure and the most experienced midfielder in the current Ghana squad, can not be on the bench against England.

With the injury concerns, of goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi Ghana continue to assess with Benjamin Asare in line to start.

Both sides enter the contest with identical objectives, thus win and qualify early, then manage the final group match with control.

England will look to impose their attacking rhythm, while Ghana’s hopes rest on defensive discipline and opportunistic finishing.

Prediction

England to beat Ghana 2–0.
