Accra, June 22, GNA – The Black Stars of Ghana and the Three Lions of England are set for a fascinating Group L showdown at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the two nations meet at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

With both sides winning their opening matches, the contest could prove decisive in determining who takes control of the group and secures an early place in the knockout stage.

Following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama in Toronto, the Black Stars would be hoping to upset the odds by beating England and securing a spot in the round of 32.

Under Carlos Queiroz, Ghana have developed a disciplined and compact 4-2-3-1 system built around defensive organisation, quick transitions, and dangerous wide attackers.

Ghana’s greatest threat lies on the counterattack, where the pace of Thomas Asante, Antoine Semenyo, and Abdul Fatawu can trouble even the strongest defences.

England arrive full of confidence after an entertaining 4-2 victory over Croatia in their opening fixture.

Thomas Tuchel’s side showcased their attacking quality, with Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, and Marcus Rashford all finding the net as the Three Lions produced one of their most impressive World Cup performances in recent years.

The result not only placed England at the top of Group L on goal difference but also strengthened belief that they can challenge for the biggest prize in world football.

Historically, there is little to separate the two nations.

England and Ghana have met only once at senior level, drawing 1-1 at Wembley in 2011 when Asamoah Gyan cancelled out Andy Carroll’s opening goal.

With both teams sitting on three points after their opening victories, the stakes could hardly be higher.England possess superior depth and attacking firepower, but Ghana’s pace, discipline, and belief make them a dangerous opponent capable of causing an upset.

Team news

The return of Thomas Partey is expected to strengthen Ghana’s midfield significantly after he missed the opening match.

Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare is likely to continue between the posts as Lawrence Ati-Zigi continues his recovery from injury.

Concerns lingered over Bukayo Saka (Achilles), Rashford (hamstring), and Declan Rice (hamstring) after England’s win over Croatia, but all three trained on Monday.

Saka came off the bench to set up fellow substitute Rashford in the Croatia match, but Thomas Tuchel is expected to maintain Noni Madueke in the starting line-up.

Ghana possible starting lineup:

Asare (GK); Senaya, Adjetey, Opoku, Mensah; Yirenkyi, Partey; Fatawu, Asante, Semenyo; Ayew.

England possible starting lineup:

Pickford (GK); James, Stones, Konsa, O’Reilly; Anderson, Rice; Madueke, Bellingham, Gordon; Kane.

Kick-off: 8:00 PM GMT
