Current Black Stars squad not Ghana’s weakest team – Michael Oti Adjei

Michael Oti Adjei, General Manager for Sports at Media General, has rejected suggestions that Ghana’s current national football team, the Black Stars, is the weakest in recent years, insisting that the squad possesses enough quality to compete strongly against any opposition.

Speaking in an interview with Bernard Avle on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Monday, June 22, Oti Adjei said many of the players in the current team gained valuable experience after making their debuts in 2022 and have continued to form part of the squad.

“The reason I don’t think this is the weakest team is that a lot of the players made their debuts in 2022 and have carried on that experience to this side. The only minus is that this team is without Mohammed Kudus and the rest. And this seems to be a problem around it,” he said.

He, however, noted that some of the players who were part of the 2022 squad have not progressed as expected.

“Another problem is that many of the players in this team from the 2022 squad have not built on that,” he added.

Despite this concern, Oti Adjei expressed confidence in the team’s overall quality, saying the squad has enough talent to challenge any opponent.

“I think this team should have enough personnel to give any team a good run for their money,” he stated.

Reflecting on previous Black Stars teams, Oti Adjei said Ghana’s 2010 squad stood out because it brought together players from different generations at the peak of their abilities.

According to him, the strength of that team lay in the blend of experienced players and emerging talents, which contributed to its success on the international stage.
