Troops across various theatres of operation in Nigeria sustained offensive operations against terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements between June 4 and June 12, 2026, recovering more than 3,403 rounds of ammunition, assorted weapons and 15 motorcycles.

The operations also led to the recovery of over N2 million suspected to be ransom money, alongside 10,000 CFA francs from terrorists and kidnappers.

The Director of Defence Media Operations (DMO), Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, disclosed this in a statement, noting that more than 5,000 litres of stolen petroleum products, including crude oil and illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), were also recovered, while illegal refining sites were destroyed in the Niger Delta region.

He said 391 kidnapped victims were rescued during the period, describing the achievements as evidence of the troops’ sustained professionalism, resilience and commitment despite challenging operational conditions.

“Notably, on June 5, 2026, troops conducted clearance operations in the Amuda general area of Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State and safely recovered an eight-year-old child, Ali Musa, who had escaped from a terrorist enclave in Saha. This was followed by the recovery of three women and children in the same area on June 6, 2026, after sustained military bombardments forced the terrorists to abandon their camp,” Onoja said.

He added that troops of Operation Savannah Shield in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State dismantled suspected terrorist surveillance networks through targeted operations.

“On June 4, 2026, at Kara Market, Wawa, troops acting on credible intelligence arrested a high-value terrorist informant who had been on the watchlist and is currently undergoing interrogation,” he stated.

Onoja further disclosed that on June 6, 2026, troops arrested five suspected terrorists and informants during separate operations in Wawa Cantonment and along the Doro axis in Borgu LGA.

He noted that investigations into a recovered mobile phone revealed images of a beheaded victim dated May 2, 2026, suggesting possible links to terrorist networks.

The Defence Headquarters urged Nigerians to continue providing actionable intelligence to security agencies, assuring that all information received would be kept confidential.
