The Mfantsiman Old Girls’ Association (MOGA) will hold simultaneous health walks across seven Ghanaian cities and two foreign chapters on June 27, offering free screenings to promote preventive care.
Every venue will run free eye tests, blood pressure checks, blood glucose readings and body mass index assessments, with healthcare professionals stationed at wellness booths. The screenings target conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes, which often go undetected until they cause lasting damage.
Walks will begin at the same time in Accra, Koforidua, Kumasi, Winneba and Swedru, Cape Coast, Takoradi and Tarkwa, alongside MOGA chapters in the United Kingdom and the United States. Accra members gather at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Koforidua at Jackson’s Park, and Kumasi at the KNUST Wellness Centre. Cape Coast assembles at the Mfantsipim School Junction and Tarkwa at the T&A Stadium.
The association runs this year’s edition under the theme “Purple Steps, Healthy Hearts, One MOGA 2.0,” billed as a reloaded outing. New features include inter house games with prizes and a children’s play area called MOGALET Corner for younger members and their families. A brass band and DJs will keep the day going.
The Accra walk will feature media personality Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, academic and author Professor Robert Ebo Hinson, and broadcaster Oheneyere Gifty Anti, herself a MOGA member. Alumni from several schools have been invited, among them Mfantsipim School, Wesley Girls’ High School, Holy Child School, Adisadel College and Aburi Girls’ Senior High School.
MOGA President Henrietta Opokua Amissah said the walk promotes wellness and unity among members. She called the reloaded edition “bigger, bolder, and more connected than ever.”
Sponsors include TWISCO, Blue Skies, Voltic, Fan Milk Ghana and Qualicare. TV3, GTV, Joy Prime, Citi TV/FM and Joy FM will provide coverage.
MOGA is the alumni network of Mfantsiman Girls’ Senior High School and runs programmes in health, education and social impact.
