The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed as false a widely circulated notice claiming that the 2026 school selection exercise for candidates writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) commenced on June 15.
In a statement issued on June 14, the GES clarified that it has not announced the commencement of the school selection process and urged candidates, parents, guardians, teachers and the general public to disregard the publication.
According to the Service, the notice falsely claimed that candidates were required to select and submit five preferred schools for placement and further stated that there was no deadline for submissions. It also directed candidates to seek assistance through an unofficial WhatsApp support line.
The GES stressed that the publication did not originate from the Service and should not be treated as authentic.
It further explained that all information relating to school selection and placement exercises would be communicated only through its official channels and other authorised government platforms.
The Service cautioned the public against sharing personal information or engaging with individuals behind the fake announcement, warning that doing so could expose them to fraud and other forms of exploitation.
GES therefore advised all stakeholders to verify information before acting on it and to rely solely on official education sector communication channels for updates on the school selection and placement process.
The Service reiterated its commitment to providing timely and accurate information to candidates and the public when the official school selection exercise is ready to commence.
