A 16-year-old victim of human trafficking (name withheld) and 19-year-old Aisha (full name withheld) have been reunited with their families as 12-year-old girl Zainab (other name withheld) remains in the protective care of the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.
Hannah was lured out of Nigeria to Libya in February 2026 where she was made to sleep with men as prostitute by a suspect identified as Tosin Moses.
Police operatives attached to a tactical unit in Adamo moved to arrest the suspects on June 1, 2026, but only met the suspect’s mother, Zainab, who had travelled to Lagos from Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State and was allegedly waiting to be taken to Libya alongside Aisha.
Hannah narrated that she was taken to Libya for prostitution by a neighbour.
Investigations revealed that Moses allegedly lured young girls to her residence in Adamo before taking them to her mother’s home at Lucky Fibre, Itokin Road, Ikorodu, Lagos, ahead of their movement out of Nigeria.
The girl, who had been living with her father in the Okonron area of Adamo, Ikorodu, Lagos State, before she was lured by a woman she identified simply as “Aunty Tosin,” was taken out of Nigeria in late January 2026. She reportedly travelled through Ghana and arrived in Libya in February 2026 before eventually escaping and returning to Nigeria on May 27, 2026.
The case was transferred to the Gender Unit of the Command on June 1, 2026 and the children were taken to sexual assault referral centre for medical examinations.
Officer in Charge of the Gender Unit, Assistant Commissioner of Police Oluwatoyin Kazeem, told The Guardian that medical examinations had been conducted and that the suspect would soon be charged to court.
Meanwhile, the police are still searching for the prime suspect, Tosin Moses.
