The Federal Government has called on Nigerians to strengthen unity, promote peaceful coexistence, and deepen national cohesion as the country reflects on its democratic journey.
The government stressed that Nigeria’s progress and stability depend on the collective commitment of citizens to national values, dialogue, and responsible citizenship, especially at a time when unity is considered critical to national development.
The call was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Friday, during activities marking Democracy Day.
Idris said Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted civilian rule reflect the resilience of its democracy, despite challenges, and urged citizens to continue supporting efforts that promote peace and development.
He noted that Democracy Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made in Nigeria’s democratic struggle, paying tribute to national figures including MKO Abiola MKO Abiola, who remains a symbol of the people’s mandate and democratic resilience.
The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting unity, and addressing national challenges under the current administration.
He further urged Nigerians to reject division, embrace dialogue, and work together in the interest of national progress and stability.
