Ghana’s flagship Marine Drive Tourism Investment Project emerged as a major attraction at the Ghana–UK Investment Summit in London, with Attachy Construction Limited, the project’s anchor developer, pitching the initiative as a prime investment destination for British investors seeking opportunities in Africa’s growing tourism sector.
Addressing potential investors, the Chief Executive Officer of Attachy Construction Limited, Mr Atta Acheampong, described Marine Drive as one of the most transformative tourism infrastructure projects in West Africa, offering investment opportunities in hospitality, retail, entertainment, real estate and cultural infrastructure.
“Marine Drive is more than a project. It is the rebirth of Accra’s coastline,” a representative of Attachy Construction said.
“We are seeing growing interest from UK investors who recognise the scale, transparency and long term returns this development offers.”
The two day summit, held at Raffles London, brought together government officials, private sector developers, financiers and diaspora investors. Although Ghana presented a broad range of opportunities within its tourism and creative arts sectors, the Marine Drive Project quickly became one of the key areas of interest, attracting attention from hotel operators, property developers and infrastructure investment funds.
The Marine Drive Project is expected to transform more than 240 acres of Accra’s beachfront into a modern tourism and cultural hub. The development is planned to include world-class hotels, convention and event facilities, retail and entertainment centres, cultural and heritage attractions, as well as public waterfront parks and promenades.
Investors were briefed on the project’s phased implementation strategy, governance framework and the government’s commitment to positioning Marine Drive as a leading tourism destination in the region.
According to Attachy Construction, interest from UK-based hotel chains, real estate developers and investors in the creative economy remains strong.
“The UK market understands waterfront value. Marine Drive offers a rare first mover advantage on a coastline with enormous tourism potential,” the company noted.
Beyond Marine Drive, Ghana used the summit to promote investment opportunities in other areas of the tourism and creative economy.
The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, highlighted opportunities in hospitality and hotel development, creative economy infrastructure including film, music and fashion, heritage and ecotourism, as well as tourism training institutions.
The summit further reinforced Ghana’s position as a leading destination for tourism investment in Africa, supported by its stable democratic environment, expanding middle class and access to the African Continental Free Trade Area market of more than 1.4 billion people.
