Ride-hailing company Bolt./FILERide-hailing company Bolt has dismissed claims circulating on social media that it plans to cease operations in Kenya next week, terming the reports false and misleading.
In a statement issued on June 1, Bolt said it had become aware of a fraudulent document being shared online and through messaging platforms, claiming that the company would exit the Kenyan market on June 8, 2026.
The statement was issued by Dimmy Kanyankole, Bolt Senior General Manager for East Africa, who urged the public to verify information before sharing it and to seek updates directly from the company’s verified communication channels.
The company moved swiftly to reassure its customers, driver-partners and stakeholders that its operations in the country remain unaffected.
“It has come to our attention that a fraudulent document purporting to be an official communication from Bolt Kenya is currently circulating on social media and messaging platforms,” the company said.
According to Bolt, the document falsely claims that the ride-hailing platform will stop operating in Kenya within days.
The company categorically denied the claims, stating that the communication did not originate from Bolt Kenya or any of its authorised representatives.
“We wish to categorically state that this document is FAKE and did not originate from Bolt Kenya or any of its authorised representatives,” the statement said.
Bolt said it remains committed to serving customers and driver-partners across the country and continues to operate normally.
“Bolt Kenya remains fully operational and committed to serving our driver-partners and customers across the country,” the company said.
The firm added that it has launched investigations to establish the source of the fabricated document and identify those behind its circulation.
“We are currently investigating the source of the fabricated document and will take appropriate action against the creation and dissemination of misleading information that misrepresents the company,” Bolt said.
The statement comes amid growing concerns over the spread of misinformation on digital platforms, where false reports can quickly gain traction and create uncertainty among consumers and businesses.
Seeking to calm fears among users of its services, Bolt reiterated that it has no plans to leave the Kenyan market and remains focused on its long-term presence in the country.
“We would like to reassure our community that Bolt continues to operate normally in Kenya and remains focused on delivering safe, reliable, and innovative services while creating economic opportunities across the country,” the company said.
The company also urged members of the public not to share the fake document and instead rely on information released through its official channels.
“We urge all driver-partners, customers, and members of the public to disregard the circulating document in its entirety, refrain from sharing or amplifying this misinformation, and rely solely on official communications from Bolt Kenya through our verified channels,” the statement said.
Bolt encouraged stakeholders seeking clarification on company matters to follow updates through its official website, verified social media accounts and the Bolt app.
