Parliament of Ghana is set to host the 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family and Sovereignty from June 3 to June 6, 2026, at the Accra Ridge Church.

The conference is expected to bring together lawmakers, academics, policy experts, civil society organisations and development partners from across Africa and other parts of the world to discuss major social, cultural and governance issues affecting the continent.

The event will be held under the theme, “Consolidating Parliamentary Consensus: Advancing the African Charter on Family Values and Sovereignty.”

According to a statement issued by the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, discussions will focus on strengthening African cultural identity, family values, food sovereignty, youth empowerment, data governance and technological transformation.

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to attend the conference as Special Guest of Honour, a move organisers say reflects Ghana’s commitment to democratic governance and Africa-focused policy development.

One of the major topics to be discussed during the conference will be the impact of Artificial Intelligence and digital technologies on African societies, especially on family systems, child protection and social cohesion.

Delegates are also expected to examine the need for stronger ethical standards, responsible digital governance and data privacy protections to safeguard citizens from harmful digital exploitation while promoting innovation in education, healthcare and economic growth.

The conference will further discuss food security and agricultural sovereignty, with emphasis on building resilient local food systems to strengthen Africa’s independence and long-term stability.

Participants will also deliberate on preserving African cultural values, indigenous knowledge and identity amid growing globalisation and rapid technological changes.

The statement noted that the gathering will provide an opportunity for African legislators to strengthen cooperation on governance, public policy and continental integration while reaffirming the role of Parliament in protecting the dignity and aspirations of African people.

Parliament said Ghana remains committed to promoting democratic cooperation, peace, stability and sustainable development across the continent.

Further details on participation, speakers and conference activities are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
