Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has warned newly recruited parliamentary assistant security officers against reporting for duty under the influence of alcohol.

He cautioned that officers who violate the directive will face disciplinary action, with a third offence attracting dismissal from Parliament.

Bagbin issued the warning during the passing-out ceremony for 69 newly recruited parliamentary assistant security guards on Friday, August 29. He urged them to maintain discipline, professionalism, and commitment to their duties.

He advised the officers to keep their social activities separate from their official responsibilities, stressing that discipline among security personnel is essential to protecting Parliament and Ghana’s democracy.

The Speaker also urged the newly recruited security officers to remain highly vigilant and strictly enforce access control and security protocols to safeguard the Parliamentary precincts.

“No alcoholism. Once we come and we smell alcohol from you, I can assure you, you’ll be disciplined. And on the third occasion, you’ll be booted out.The protection of our democracy begins with the yielding discipline of those tasked to guard its pillars,” he said.
