Black Starlets head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has underlined Ghana’s determination to go the extra mile as they prepare for a decisive FIFA U17 World Cup qualification play-off against Uganda.
The fixture carries added intrigue as Ghana come up against their former coach and ex-Black Stars midfielder Laryea Kingston, who now leads the Ugandan side in a high-stakes encounter for one of Africa’s remaining tickets to the global tournament in Qatar.
Ghana reached this stage after finishing third in Group D at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, setting up a winner-takes-all clash with Uganda, who also ended their group campaign in the same position in Group B.
Ogum has framed the contest as more than just another match, stressing the scale of what is at stake for his young squad.
“Very important because it gives the team the ticket to compete at the World Cup. I mean, it is a dream of every player, every coach, everybody to be at the World Cup,” he said.
“So, the value, the weight that it carries is so high, so important, so significant that we are all ready and we are all poised to go extra miles,” Ogum stated.
The Black Starlets go into the game boosted by their impressive 3-1 victory over South Africa in their final group fixture, a result that restored confidence after a tightly contested group stage.
