Joseph Narbi netted a brace to inspire the Black Starlets to victory against South Africa and keep Ghana’s World Cup hopes alive at the ongoing Africa U17 Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Having drawn and lost in their opening two games, the Black Starlets needed to beat South Africa to hand their chances of a return to the global stage a huge boost.
Despite brushing aside the Amajitas 3-1, Ghana finished third behind group D leaders Senegal and Algeria.
Augustine Appiah’s injury time strike was only enough for a third place finish and Ghana will find out their fate following the drawing of lots between them and Algeria.
Meanwhile, in a blistering start to the game, Narbi opened the scoring from the spot, smashing hard and low to beat the South African goalie.
Just before half time, the Black Starlets captain doubled the lead from the spot again, this time he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.
However, after the break, Obama Mhlongo reduced the deficit for South Africa before they were reduced to ten men moments later.
Ghana then sealed victory after Appiah hit low and hard following a poor clearance from South Africa.
