The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has scheduled planned maintenance exercises across the Tema, Ashanti, and Accra East Regions for Tuesday, May 19, 2026, even as engineers continue to battle a broken high-tension pole that plunged parts of Suame Magazine in the Ashanti Region into darkness on Monday.

According to advisories issued by the power distributor, the outages will commence at 9:00 am across affected areas, with durations varying depending on the scope of works to be carried out at each location.

In the Tema Region, a planned maintenance operation will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, affecting a broad list of communities, including Tema International School, Don Bosco, China Town Mall, Tulaku, Bethlehem, Sebrepor, White Estates, Emefs Estates, Goshen, Gbetsile, Ashaiman Official Town and District Court, Christian Village, Booster, Ashiasec, Clementina, Community 17, Resolve Hospital, Timber Market, Bakeshop, Baatsonaa Cluster of Schools, Marina Mall, Baatsonaa Total, and surrounding areas. The six-hour outage will impact educational institutions, healthcare facilities, shopping malls, and residential estates.

In the Accra East Region, a planned maintenance operation will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting AU Village, Borteyman, and surrounding areas. The eight-hour outage will impact the African Union Village and surrounding residential zones.

In the Ashanti Region, two separate planned maintenance exercises have been scheduled. The first will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, affecting Besease, Ejisu, Manhyia, Adadientem, Ampabame, Boankra, Atia, Hwereso, Kubease, Duampompong, Buoama-Dumase, New Koforidua, Nobewam, and surrounding areas. A second operation will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, affecting Kokofu, Domeabra, Apromase, Appiadu Kokoben, and surrounding areas.

These scheduled interventions come as the ECG continues to manage the aftermath of a broken high-tension pole at Suame Magazine in the Ashanti West Region on Monday, 18th May 2026. The fault disrupted power to parts of Magazine and surrounding areas, affecting one of Ghana’s most prominent industrial and spare parts hubs. Engineers were deployed to rectify the fault and restore supply.

In its public notices, the ECG extended its apologies to all affected customers, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by both the scheduled maintenance and the unplanned fault. The company reassured the public that engineers are working diligently to resolve all network issues while emphasising that the planned exercises are necessary to ensure the long-term robustness of the power network across the regions.
