The Ghana Maritime Authority has joined the global community in marking the International Day for Women in Maritime, celebrating the courage, innovation, and achievements of women across the sector, from seafaring and port operations to engineering, law, and leadership.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 18, 2026, the Authority reaffirmed its commitment to gender inclusion and the empowerment of women and girls in maritime, emphasising that diversity and equal participation are essential to unlocking innovation, strengthening Ghana’s maritime sector, and advancing national development.
“From seafaring and port operations to engineering, law, and leadership, women continue to break barriers and drive progress,” the statement read.
The Authority called on government institutions, industry players, and partners to support initiatives that mentor and elevate women in maritime.
“Together, let us sail toward a future where every woman’s potential is fully realised,” the statement added.
To all women in the maritime fraternity, the Authority celebrated their courage, dedication, and achievements, noting that their contributions inspire future generations and propel the industry forward.
The statement was issued by Dr Kamal-Deen Ali, Naval Captain (Rtd.), Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority.
The International Day for Women in Maritime, observed annually, recognises the critical role women play in the maritime industry and seeks to promote gender balance in a sector traditionally dominated by men.
